A Leader is someone who shares visions, supports student empowerment, engages with student stakeholders, and advocates for equitable access to educational technology.
-ISTE Standards for Educators
One of the numerous things that teachers need to become is a Leader. No one teacher thinks or preforms the same, so it is imperative that educators alike confide in one another and share their successes and failures, as well as their visions. Teachers should come together as often as possible, especially if they work in the same community or school, as educators should constantly be focused on student empowerment and advocating for overall equity of their students.
A way that teachers are able to achieve this equity is through the use of technology and advocating for technology to be available within classrooms so that all students have a chance to learn new material. Warschauer, Grant, Rousseau, and Del Real in Promoting academic literacy with technology: successful laptop programs in K-12 schools states:
"New technologies are an extraordinarily valuable tool to facilitate this process. The use of computers and the Internet can provide support for extensive and independent reading and writing, assist with language scaffolding, and provide opportunities for authentic research and publication... Rather, new technologies serve as an amplifier that can magnify pre-existing strengths and weaknesses." (2011)

At the start of the semester, I was unsure how to achieve this standard. I knew that talking and sharing with other educators was a huge part of becoming a teacher myself, but I didn't know where to turn or who to talk to. Since taking this class, however, I've learned that there are a plethora of resources online to help me collaborate with other educators. I have several go-to blogs bookmarked on my laptop, and I also have a Twitter account where I can direct message educators or even participate in an Education Chat if I need to hear or give advice! I know now that I'm able to give and get advice with the click of my mouse once I'm on Twitter-- there are a host of Education hashtags where educators are constantly having conversations with one another.
