-ISTE Standards for Educators
Teachers often need to facilitate (or make a process easier) for their students. Having tools such as technology at their disposal is imperative to allow facilitation to happen within a classroom setting. This can include a plethora of resources, such as Google Docs with built-in spell-check, educational Youtube or other MP4 tutorials, or creating something on a website or through a digital presentation. These digital stories often work well with children, and Dillon states that, "The unique nature of digital story -- with its quick visual displays of information coupled with its engaging images of people, place, and planet -- provides the ideal media for amplifying the impact that comes from seamlessly weaving together these areas."
I feel that I was well-equipped at the start of the semester to fulfill most of what this standard asks of educators. As a visual learner, I personally love digital story telling. I love to create and share my experiences through art or videos. I have already asked a few students I've been teaching to express themselves creatively for a project, and the results have been astonishing. I could tell that they enjoyed this creative break, and they also retained the material fairly quickly.
I was able to create my own digital story and had a lot of fun doing this as well. Videos like these are a great way to get information across. |
